Good morning, Washington, and happy Gay Marriage Day! But wait, wasn’t that last week? Well, yes and no. Wednesday was the first day same-sex couples could apply for marriage licenses, while today is the first day they can pick them up and go get legally wed. As the AP (via WUSA9) notes, that means there are about 150 couples who could get married by the end of the day. A handful of wedding ceremonies are planned for today at the Human Rights Campaign headquarters (1640 Rhode Island Ave. NW), like that of the first couple to apply for a license, Angelisa Young and Sinjoyla Townsend. Dozens of others are planned in various churches, backyards, and banquet halls. And at least a few have already gotten married just outside the courthouse. Best wishes to all the happy couples!

Total Cost of Red Line Crash Tallied: A WMATA memo obtained by the Examiner’s Kytja Weir says that the deadly June 22 Red Line crash cost the transit agency $25.5 million worth of damage to rail cars and tracks. That of course doesn’t count the slightly less direct costs of the crash, like ridership declines. Metro hopes to get $24 million worth of insurance to cover the bulk of the damage, Weir reports, but will likely have to eat about $1.5 million of the total, not to mention the $1 million deductible.

Northrop Grumman Deal Losing Support: Both the Post and the Washington Business Journal cover what appears to be a crumbling deal to entice defense contracting giant Northrop Grumman to move its headquarters to the District instead of Virginia or Maryland. Looks like too many D.C. Council members, co-sponsor Mary Cheh among them, are now unsure whether giving away $25 million worth of incentives is really a good idea. Meanwhile, separately in the Business Journal, Sarah Krouse reports that Northrup could end up delaying its decision until June.

This Day in DCist: Last year we spotted a Craigslist ad that offered up Modest Mouse tickets in exchange for job leads.
