>> His D.C. show a few months back sold out. But not to fear, Ann Arbor, Michigan native Mayer Hawthorne is back in town with his band, The County, and his nerd-soul music. Also appearing with him at the Rock and Roll Hotel will be DJ House Shoes and Nikki Jean. $15, 8 p.m.

>> The “Metropolitan Muse” concert series will bring North Carolina-based bassist George Tisdale to Layla Lounge‘s stage, along with local vocalist Alison Carney. $10, 8 p.m.

Friday:
>> Baltimore singer Maimouna Youssef made a splash with The Roots on their Game Theory album. She’ll be celebrating her birthday at Liv with some special guests: Cody Chesnutt, Farfina Kan and Navasha Daya. Not to mention, there will be a show after set with Common’s sound selector, DJ Dummy. $20 in advance, 7:30 p.m.

Saturday:
>> As is customary when The Roots come to town (they’ll be at Shamrock Fest 2010), ?uestlove will be moving from behind the drum set and into the DJ booth for the evening. He’ll be bringing his diverse selection of party music to Liv. $15 in advance, 9 p.m.

>> L.A.’s Dâm-Funk (pictured) has been helping preserve the funky electro-boogie sounds of the early-1980s with his various producer credits and parties. He’ll be joined at the The Warehouse/The Loft/411 Penn (411 New York Avenue NE) by Beautiful Swimmers and Glenn Echo. $15 in advance, 10 p.m.

Monday:
>> Janelle Monáe has been garnering a lot of positive attention since she first broke out a few years ago, with comparisons ranging from Erykah Badu to Prince. You can find her at the Black Cat with The 54. $15, 8 p.m.
