An adult male was shot at about 2 p.m. this afternoon in the vicinity of the Shaw/Howard Univ. Metro station.

The victim was found by first responders near the intersection of 7th and L Streets NW, but witnesses said the shooting may have occurred farther north, closer to 8th and R Streets NW.

D.C. Fire/EMS spokesperson Pete Piringer confirmed that the victim had suffered a gunshot wound and was being transported to a nearby hospital, but the extent of the victim’s injuries is still unknown. At least six or seven shots rang out at the time of the shooting.

Police were on the lookout for one or possibly two suspects who fled on foot in the area. We’ll update when we know more.
