Good morning, Washington. First, snow. Now, potential flooding. I don’t know about you, but I’m mentally preparing myself for what sort of annoying sky-based plague the gods are thinking about sending our way next. (Frogs, perhaps?) The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch through Sunday evening and many boroughs around our fair city are preparing themselves for the quite serious possibility of standing water, thanks to several days of forecasted rain. Local television stations were already on the scene with live stand-ups from an already more watery than usual King Street in Alexandria this morning. Good luck staying dry, especially those of you in low-lying areas.
>> This morning’s must read: Who Murdered Robert Wone? has an excellent, incredibly detailed recap of yesterday’s status hearing at a packed Moultrie Courthouse, including the revelation from the prosecution that “only 3 ml of Robert’s blood are left; too little according to FBI consultants to allow for any further probative testing.” The prosecution also admitted their their strategy for the trial is “evolving.” WaPo has more on the prosecution’s plan to not charge any of Wone’s roommates with killing him.
>> Loose Lips argues that Ward 5 Councilmember Harry Thomas, Jr. seems to have skirted the Council’s no earmarks policy by making “recommendations” on behalf of certain non-profit community groups which has led to said groups receiving funds. Thomas and a spokesperson for earmark-eliminator chair Vincent Gray disagree with the columnist’s assessment. (Let’s call the whole thing off.)
>> WTOP features a pair of truly shocking tales of incompetence on the part of D.C. paramedics — first responders who told the mother of a child suffering an asthma attack to put him in a hot shower to “steam him out,” and another woman, who after falling ill in a courtroom, was awakened by a medic telling her “you can stop pretending now. You’re out of court.”
