The 5th Annual SunTrust National Marathon is happening this Saturday, March 20, lasting from approximately 7 a.m to 1 p.m. Temporary, intermittent street closings will occur along the race route (which includes the 26.2-mile marathon, a 13.1 mile half-marathon, and relay races) starting at 6:45 a.m.

East Capitol Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 13th Street NE to 2nd Street NE from 6:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Residents who normally use East Capitol to get to or from their homes will be allowed intermittent north bound/southbound travel across East Capitol Street at the following locations: 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 15th and 17th streets.

Minnesota Ave. SE will be closed to traffic from about 8:55 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. And Connecticut Ave. between Florida Ave. and M Street NW will likely be closed from 7 a.m. to 8:35 a.m. Other delays along the course route should be expected — D.C. police officers will be posted along the course route, and rolling closures will take place as runners make their way through. A full list of estimated times and streets can be downloaded here.

Also note that vehicles parked along the route will not be allowed to be moved once runners enter the area. Affected streets have been posted with temporary “Official Course Route” signage.

Metrorail will open two hours early—at 5 a.m.—on Saturday to help participants get to the starting line. A number of Metrobus routes will be affected by the rolling street closures. Those routes include: 5A, 13A, 13B, 13F, 13G, 32, 34, 36, 38B, 42, 52, 54, 64, 70, 80, 90, 92, 96, 98, A42, A46, A48, B2, D4, D6, D8, G2, G8, H2, H4, H8, L2, M6, N6, N22, P6, S2, S4, U6, V8, X2 and X8.
