Good morning, Washington. It must really be spring, because the shootings have started up again. D.C. Police are investigating two separate shootings that took place last night between 9 and 9:30 p.m. — one in the 2200 block of Champlain Street NW in Adams Morgan, and another in the 800 block of Southern Ave SE. Granted, the District has still seen almost 38 percent fewer homicides so far this year than the same period last year, but February’s historic snow storms are taking a lot of the credit for that. And get this: the MPD says the Adams Morgan shooting was actually caught on one of their crime cameras, marking one of the very first times the cameras could end up working as they’re intended. The victim in that incident was shot in the leg and is expected to survive.

Ward 7 Close to Getting New Early Child Development Center: Bill Turque reports that a deal is nearly done to put a brand new, $12 million early-childhood education center in the Parkside neighborhood of Ward 7. “The Educare Center is expected to serve 175 infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their families on a site adjacent to Neval Thomas Elementary School. Construction, which could begin as early as this summer, would be financed with private funds from the Buffett Early Childhood Fund, the J.B. and M.K. Pritzker Family Foundation and other national organizations.” Just waiting on the land deal to go through in the D.C. Council.

Speaking of Shootings: A wild story from the Post’s Debbi Wilgoren about a pair of grown men from Woodbridge who were arrested Tuesday afternoon after a road rage incident on I-95 in Prince William County. Gabriel Poventud, 25, allegedly fired 13 rounds at a truck being driven by James Bringham, 44 — all while Poventud’s 2-year-old daughter was in the back seat. Amazingly, no one was injured.
