This week’s restaurant awards revelry continued Tuesday in D.C. as the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington named finalists for its annual chef and restaurant honors, the RAMMYs. While some nominations hardly came as a surprise (Michel Richard Citronelle nominated for Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year? Shut up.), Tuesday’s nominating reception did introduce a new award category for Beverage and Mixology program and highlight some of the D.C.-area’s newest restaurants and hot spots.

Nominees in the Beverage and Mixology category need to have been open for two years, meaning the more recently opened joints for drinks lovers like The Passenger and Birch & Barley weren’t eligible. B&B and its sister bar Church Key did pick up a nomination for Hottest Restaurant Bar Scene of the Year, however, along with one for Best New Restaurant. In Beverage and Mixology, Founding Farmers/Farmers & Fishers, PS7’s, Tabard Inn, Brasserie Beck and the EatGoodFood Group (PX, Restaurant Eve, Majestic) all got nods. A full list of the nominees is available here.

Competition is sure to be stiff between nominees in the categories that are voted on by the public, especially for Best Neighborhood Gathering Spot, given each ‘hood’s fierce loyalty to its neighborhood haunt. Vying for votes in the Neighborhood category are Bar Pilar, Belga Café, Cork, EatBar and Kemble Park Tavern. Members of the public also get to vote on the Hottest Bar Scene, Power Spot of the Year and write in for the Voter’s Favorite category. Ballots can be filled out at RAMW’s website starting April 29. The awards ceremony is scheduled for June 6.
