While GIlbert Arenas managed to avoid a jail sentence on handgun charges yesterday, his NBA future was still in doubt. That is, of course, until Washington Wizards team president Ernie Grunfeld took the mic this evening. Speaking to the press before tonight’s game against Utah, Grunfeld confirmed that the team would not be voiding Gilbert Arenas’ contract. According to Wizards blog Truth About It, Grunfeld confirmed that “Gilbert’s part of this organization, he’s part of our team and he’s going to be with us next year. We plan to have him back and we plan to have him in uniform.” Grunfeld continued: “We’re not going to void his contract and I’ve said all along, he’s going to be with us. And I think I’ve said that for the last two months.” Six years remain on Arenas’ $111 million contract with the Wizards.
