Photo by Command ZThe District Department of Transportation has issued a new set of guidelines for bringing strollers onto the city’s Circulator buses. The transportation department is attempting to “clear up any confusion about when and if strollers are allowed on the Circulator,” following incidents in January that saw First Transit, the private contractor that runs the Circulator, suddenly and without warning decide to ban unfolded strollers.
The bottom line is this: children are allowed to ride the Circulator in strollers, but only so long as there is room. Riders in wheelchairs, seniors, and those with disabilities have first priority on space inside the buses. Should a disabled person or a senior require the wheelchair area, parents may be asked to fold their stroller and move to another seat.
DDOT has also set a maximum size for strollers on the bus: 48″ long by 24″ wide. Oversized strollers, such as jogging strollers, are not allowed.
