FRIDAY:

MOVIE: The Smithsonian’s American Art Museum opens a new exhibit this weekend dedicated to looking back at Jeanne-Claude & Christo’s massive 1976 installation, The Running Fence. In conjunction with the exhibit, the museum commissioned a new film about the work, Running Fence Revisited by Wolfram Hissen, in which the filmmaker examines the project with the benefit of over three decades of history, interviewing many of those who were involved at the time. Both Hissen and Christo will be on hand to discuss the film after it premieres tonight at 7 p.m. The screening is free, but tickets are required, and will be handed out on a first come, first served basis beginning at 6 p.m. in SAAM’s G Street lobby.

ART: The galleries in two neighborhoods do First Fridays now. Head to Dupont for openings at Hillyer (7 6 to 9 p.m.), Studio Gallery (6 to 8 p.m.) and more, or Penn Quarter to see what’s new at Caos on F (5:30 to 8 p.m.) and Reyes + Davis (6 to 8:30 p.m.).

DJ: Local house music legend Sam Burns will be headlining U Street Music Hall‘s “Red Fridays” tonight with Solomon Sanchez. $10, 10 p.m.

MUSIC: Tickets are still available to catch the oft-underrated Nada Surf at the 9:30 Club. Dawn Landes opens. Doors at 8 p.m., $20.

The Velvet Lounge hosts the District of Sound showcase, featuring Bellflur, Drop Electric, and Club Scout. Doors at 9 p.m, show at 10 p.m. $8.
