It’s beginning to look like D.C. is a mecca for all the world’s build-your-own-salad and fro-yo creation chains, with Canadian-born Freshii joining the ranks with its first District location opening today. Freshii, at 2001 M St. NW, is adding its incarnation of the customizable food model with salads, burritos, soups and tart yogurt to the list of quick, casual eateries in Foggy Bottom. And what better way to welcome itself to the neighborhood than to give out a crapload of free frozen yogurt?

Beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, April 8, Freshii will give out fat-free tart yogurt to all customers passing through its doors. The deal will last until closing at 9 p.m., according to a press release from the company, although methinks Freshii may be underestimating just how much free food this city can consume. Remember the line for free mini cupcakes outside Red Velvet last year?

Freshii is also planning to offer a number of other mysterious “giveaways” and “freebies” during their first week, so freegans take note. Don’t mind paying? In addition to the build your own options, the restaurant’s menu includes items like the Warrior Chicken rice bowl ($6.49) with brown rice, cajun chicken, sweet corn, red onions, diced tomatoes and cilantro; Spicy Lemongrass soup with chicken and rice noodles ($7.59); a Vegan wrap ($5.79) with veggies, avocado, chickpeas and sun-dried tomatoes; and the Wild Pacific salad ($9.79) with grilled salmon, roasted red peppers and mushrooms over spinach with a cucumber dill dressing.
