READING: Moby is in town tonight, not to perform or market a new album, but instead to promote vegetarianism, animal rights, and his new book, Gristle: From Factory Farms to Food Safety (co-written with Miyun Park). This free 6:30 p.m. event at Busboys and Poets (14th & V NW) is sure to draw a crowd, so come early.
DJ: Also free tonight, the Dynamite Brothers (DJs Nitekrawler and Lunch Money) will lay down a funk mix at the U Street Music Hall. 9 p.m.
COMEDY: DC Improv is hosting the The District’s Funniest College Finals, a showcase of college comedians from the D.C. metro area (hailing from the University of Maryland, American University, George Mason University and others). These students have already won previous competitions at their universities to make it to the finals, which begin at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.). Tickets are $10.
MUSIC: Steel Panther, the “parody heavy metal band,” performs at the 9:30 Club, 7 p.m., $25.
