Team DCist is cleaning streets and taking names. Last month we invited our readers and writers to join our Servathon 2010 team. We’ll be one of dozens of teams around the Washington area participating in this massive day of service on Saturday, April 24. So far, 37 of you have registered for our team, and you’ve pulled together $1.540.10 toward our fundraising goal. We’re ranked #2 in team size and money raised, just a few dollars and volunteers behind Team DHS.
C’mon DCists—we can’t go down to the Department of Homeland Security! Sign up to volunteer with us, or at least donate a little dough in our name to catapult us to #1. We signed up to have a 50 person team, so there’s still room for at least 13 of you to volunteer alongside us (and snag a Team DCist t-shirt while you’re at it). And with our heft, we were able to snag a choice project, which we are happy to announce.
We’ll be on Columbia Heights/Petworth Community Cleanup duty. We’ll start the morning bright and early close to the Petworth Metro stop and work our way down toward the Howard University campus as we “clean up and beautify” the streets. And when we’re done with that at 12:30, it’s off to the after-party. If you’ve already signed up, expect an e-mail soon with more information. And encourage your friends to donate money to Greater DC Cares to fulfill your personal fundraising goal.
Registration closes April 19, we’re sharing our project site with a few other groups, so space is limited. If you still want to volunteer, the time to sign up is now.
