Yesterday afternoon WMATA announced that Metro Transit Police arrested one Jose Del Castillo, a 55-year-old MetroAccess driver, on charges of sexual assault. The Gaithersburg driver allegedly committed a third-degree sex offense back in January and was suspended without pay two days later. The U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute a separate alleged sexual assault incident involving a different MetroAccess driver that was also reported in January. MetroAccess is a Metro public transit service for disabled people whose disabilities prevent them from using Metrobus and Metrorail services, and most certainly not a service open to sexual predators.
