MOVIE: The Freer and the AFI are teaming up again this year to present their annual Korean Film Festival, which kicks off tonight with a screening of Jeon Soo-il’s acclaimed 2007 film, With a Girl of Black Soil. 7 p.m., free; first come, first served.
ART: Head down to Anacostia for a happy hour with artist Brad Ulreich at Gallery at Vivid Solutions, and check out his ongoing show, La Femme da Vine. 5 to 7:30 p.m.
It’s time for the annual Spring Solos at the Arlington Arts Center. If you didn’t get enough of Mia Feuer’s work at Transformer Gallery (through Saturday), see her new “super-size” sculptural piece here. Then see how photorealistic Gregory Thielker’s paintings are, and we imagine DCist readers will appreciate John James Anderson’s work, based on the malfunctioning fire hydrants in D.C. Reception is 6 to 9 p.m.
JAZZ: New Orleans-based saxophonist Donald Harrison originated a style he calls “Nouveau Swing,” which blends elements of acoustic swing with modern R&B, second-line, hip-hop, and reggae. Catch him tonight and Saturday for 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets at Bohemian Caverns. Tickets are $20.
DJ: “Red Fridays” at the U Street Music Hall hasn’t been around long but already has made itself notable for upping the dance music ante in the District. This week Chicago house legend Jesse Saunders will be in town with D.C.’s own Sam Burns and Joe L. $10, 10 p.m.
MUSIC: One of our favorite catches from SXSW, New Jersey’s Titus Andronicus is making a stop at St. Stephen’s Church. The band’s second album, The Monitor, is being heaped with acclaim left and right and for good reason. The Civil War-themed album is a great mix of storytelling (a la Bruce Springsteen/The Hold Steady) and a guitar crunch that’s a lot of blue collar punk and a little Celtic tinge. Sleeper Agent and Amateur Party are opening. The show is put on by Positive Force. 7:30 p.m., $8
