Much like last weekend, the Metrorail system will be bogged down with lengthy delays starting tonight through close on Sunday, as WMATA continues work on a number of major track maintenance projects. Plan for delays of up to 40 minutes thanks to ongoing work on the Red, Blue and Orange lines.

Blue and Orange Lines:
Switch replacement work at the Rosslyn station continues, and will find trains sharing the same track between Court House and Foggy Bottom on the Orange Line, and between Arlington Cemetery and Foggy Bottom on the Blue Line, from 10 p.m. Friday, April 23, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, April 25. Blue and Orange Line trains will depart only every 20 minutes from the Largo Town Center, Franconia-Springfield, New Carrollton and Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, except between Rosslyn and Stadium-Armory, where trains will operate approximately every 10 minutes.

Red Line:
It’s the same mess as usual between Medical Center and Friendship Heights. Trains will single-track between these locations starting at 8 p.m. tonight through to closing (midnight) on Sunday, April 25.

WMATA crews will also be performing maintenance on the elevated tracks near the Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood station. Delays of about 20 minutes are expected between New York Ave-Florida Ave-Gallaudet U and Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood due to single-tracking in that area starting at 10 p.m. tonight through to closing (midnight) on Sunday.

With all this work going on, Red Line trains will be spaced much farther apart than normal, leaving approximately every 30 minutes from Shady Grove and Glenmont all day on Saturday and Sunday. Between Friendship Heights and New York Ave-Florida Ave-Gallaudet U, trains will operate approximately every 15 minutes.
