Good morning, Washington. Not much to say by way of introduction today, so let’s get straight to the news.

Two People Likely Involved in Betts Killing: Both WTOP and the Examiner are reporting that police now believe that two people were involved in the killing of Shaw Middle School Principal Brian Betts last week. Montgomery County Police say that a second vehicle other than Betts’ Nissan Xterra was seen leaving his house around the time they believe he was killed. Police are also still investigating whether Betts’ homosexuality may have played a part in the crime.

Revised Metro Budget Presented: While service cuts will be less significant than expected, Metro’s $1.46 billion budget and the trade-offs made to close a $189 million deficit provoked concern from various officials from the region yesterday. The Examiner writes that D.C. City Administrator Neil Albert complained that a 20 percent hike in bus fares would affect District residents more than the 15 percent proposed for rail fares and 12 percent for parking, while Council member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) worried about shutting down the Metro at 2 a.m. instead of 3 a.m. on weekend nights. A Maryland official argued against limits to MetroAccess service, while a Virginia official opposed using $30 million in capital funds to help close the budget gap.

Two New Arrests Made in South Capitol Street Shooting: While yesterday’s news that charges against a 14-year-old thought to be involved in the deadly South Capitol Street shooting that left four dead had been dropped drew the most attention, police also announced that they had issued warrants for the arrest of three other suspects, two of whom are now in police custody. According to WJLA, 22-year-old Robet Bost faces three counts of first-degree murder and one of felony murder, while 22-year-old Lamar Williams faces four counts of murder one and one count of felony murder. The third suspect is still being sought.
