Dish of the Week: Omelettes
Where: Bob and Edith’s

What distance is too far to drive to go to Waffle House? Considering that Waffle House is rarely visited when the sun is up or when sober, the trip to the closest locations in Dumfries, Va. and Frederick, Md. would seem a bit far to travel. This isn’t to say that Waffle House cooks the best breakfast food, but there isn’t much that beats a greasy plate of hash browns (or as the menu says “scattered, covered, and chunked” topped with a little black pepper and ketchup thx) at 2 in the morning cooked by someone’s uncle and brought to you by Flo, sugar.

Driving 30 miles for hash browns is excessive, and thankfully there are closer alternatives for second breakfast, like Bob and Edith’s in Arlington. Eggs are a must-have during second breakfast, and I prefer them in the folded semi-circular form of an omelet. Growing up, you couldn’t pay me to eat an omelet with anything other than cheese, but thankfully I got over that hang-up. At home, it’s tomatoes, cheese, lime juice, green onions and avocado. At Bob and Edith’s, it’s bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, and cheese. Crispy home fries are served on the side (sadly no hash browns), ensuring your carbohydrate and cholesterol totals are well above FDA-approved standards.

Perhaps you’re more a fan of pancakes or waffles when the sun goes down? Where do you go for breakfast served all-day? Let us know in the comments.
