Escher String Quartet

>> The extraordinary run of string quartets visiting Washington in April continues this week. First it’s the Escher String Quartet at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater on Monday night (April 26, 7:30 p.m.), playing music by Bartók, Brahms, and Beethoven. Tickets: $32.

>> On Thursday night (April 29, 7:30 p.m.) Pro Musica Hebraica presents the Biava Quartet and Friends in a program of Jewish-themed music by Milhaud, Ravel, and Alkan in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Tickets: $38.

>> Finally, there is the Ariel Quartet on Sunday (May 2, 4 p.m.), joined by violist Roger Tapping in music of Mozart, Brahms, and Beethoven, at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Tickets: $45.

>> Baritone Christopher Maltman will give a recital for the Vocal Arts Society on Tuesday (April 27, 7:30 p.m.), with pianist Graham Johnson at the Embassy of Austria.

>> The same evening (April 27, 7:30 p.m.), Young Concert Artists presents violinist Bella Hristova and pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute in recital (including interesting choices of music by Messiaen and Corigliano) at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Tickets: $30.

>> The Library of Congress presents the Jack Quartet, an adventurous string quartet known for its performances of unusual modern music, on Friday (April 30, 8 p.m.) in a free concert of music by Pintscher, Xenakis, and others.

>> The Piano Society of Greater Washington presents a free recital event this Sunday (May 2, 3 p.m.) at Silver Spring’s Calvary Lutheran Church. A free-will donation is collected.
