Things like this are why I don’t have a land line anymore. Via ARLnow, we learn that a number Arlington residents are complaining about incessant, middle-of-the-night phone calls from a mysterious telephone number with a Wyoming area code. As Tamar Abrams described the calls in the Huffington Post:

I’ve cajoled, pleaded, badgered but all I get is silence on the other end until, after about six seconds, we are disconnected. I’ve tried calling back but get a recording that says the number is out of service. At 3:30 in the morning, awakened from a deep sleep here in Northern Virginia, I imagined all manner of activities taking place across the country in Wyoming. But mostly I felt relief that the calls weren’t from a more familiar area code where friends and family reside. I know no one in Wyoming and yet, the phone keeps ringing.

The offending number in question is 307-459-1039, which has quite a rap sheet on various online discussion boards that deal with abusive telemarketers. Only problem is, there aren’t any sales people on the other end of these calls to hold accountable scream at.

It looks like newer Verizon customers might be out of luck in terms of the old *60 call block feature, so what can folks who are getting calls like this do? It’s always a good idea to put yourself on the National Do Not Call Registry, and you may want to consider buying a phone (like this one) that includes a call blocker device.
