For those of you who, like us, got suckered today by DDOTDC’s Twitter feed into thinking there was going to be some actual news about the future of D.C.’s streetcar program, allow us to properly phrase our collective response: pttttttttttttttthhhbt! The “exciting news” teased this morning turns out to be merely more details on an upcoming event that the transportation department already announced back in December. It’s not nice to toy with us, DDOT!

In any event, streetcar enthusiasts will want to note that the public debut (that’s stationary, mind you) of D.C.’s modern streetcars has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 5 through Saturday, May 8 at the parking lot on the old convention center site (10th and H streets NW). DDOT is dubbing the event the “DC Streetcar Showcase,” which will offer District residents, workers and visitors their first chance to step aboard one of the streetcars.

DDOT will plop one of the three streetcars it already owns on a set of temporary tracks in the parking lot, and invite the public to climb aboard. The showcase is free and will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5 through Friday, May, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 8 — which also happens to be National Train Day.
