Hello, Washington. Despite today’s gorgeous sunshine and warming temperatures, we’re admittedly having a hard time facing the world after last night’s crushing Caps playoffs loss. The mood across D.C. is depressed and funky as all of us contemplate the big, uncomfortable questions about our collective sporting fates. Are the Caps cursed? What could we have done that we’re being punished so harshly? Is it really possible that the Nats are the best team we have at this point?

Dorothy Height Remembered All Over Town: The streets of Shaw were packed last night as residents lined up to get a seat inside a remembrance of Dorothy Height held at Shiloh Baptist Church. Former president Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were among those who got up to speak about Height’s legacy. The Post highlights some of the event’s more memorable moments, and notes that the line to get a seat at Height’s funeral this morning started forming before dawn. President Barack Obama is delivering the eulogy at the National Cathedral this morning.

Sinclair Skinner Testifies Again Before D.C. Council: Controversial Fenty pal Sinclair Skinner appeared before the D.C. Council’s special committee on parks contracts again on Wednesday. Much as the last time, there was a lot that Skinner couldn’t recall. Nikita Stewart writes in the Post: ‘The 40-year-old entrepreneur, who left behind a failing dry cleaning business to work on Fenty’s 2006 mayoral campaign, frequently said Wednesday that he would have to talk to his business partner Abdullahi Barrow, a professional engineer, to get information. Skinner’s answers appeared to frustrate and amuse Robert P. Trout, the high-profile lawyer leading the council’s probe pro bono. “We’re going to try to talk to him ourselves,” Trout said, chuckling. “We’ll save you the trouble.”‘

Briefly Noted: D.C. Council bill opposes immigrant fingerprint checks … Memorial erected in Silver Spring to honor workers killed on the job … Md. man fakes his own death to avoid prosecution in gun case … Metro ridership falling below expectations, despite strong March … Attempted robber shot by shopkeeper may have later claimed he was shot elsewhere by muggers.

This Day in DCist: Last year, much of Cleveland Park was woken early by a very loud alarm at UDC, and the year before that, video game enthusiasts lined up to buy Grand Theft Auto IV.
