Green Line trains are sharing a single track between Fort Totten and Prince George’s Plaza this morning after a piece of track equipment broke down at about 4:30 a.m., according to Metro.

A track tamper, a machine used to pack or “tamp” the ballast under the tracks, was returning to the Greenbelt rail yard early this morning when its axle broke, officials said. No injuries have been reported.

Significant delays are expected to continue on this section of the Green Line through and past the morning rush hour. Off-peak Yellow Line trains will also terminate at Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center, instead of Fort Totten, until further notice.
