Cellist Zuill Bailey>> American cellist Zuill Bailey was born in Alexandria and studied with a cellist from the National Symphony Orchestra and then at Johns Hopkins before going to Juilliard and becoming an internationally known musician. He will come back to the area for a recital on Tuesday (May 4, 7:30 p.m.) with pianist Orion Weiss, sponsored by Washington Performing Arts Society in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater.
>> American tenor Anthony Dean Griffey will give a recital for Vocal Arts Society, on Wednesday (May 5, 7:30 p.m.) with pianist Warren Jones at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. The program includes a set of traditional folk songs, accompanied by Paul Brown on the fiddle and banjo.
>> On Friday night (May 7, 7:30 p.m.), mega-soprano Christine Brewer gives a recital with pianist Craig Rutenberg at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. The program is one-half art song (Gluck, Marx, Strauss) and one-half an assortment of American popular song.
>> A week of excellent singers is rounded off by mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux and tenor Kenneth Tarver, in the performance of Rossini’s La Cenerentola, or Cinderella, by Washington Concert Opera on Sunday night (May 9, 6 p.m.) at Lisner Auditorium.
