A family spokesperson has confirmed that the woman who died in a pedestrian crash at First and M Streets SE on Thursday was Amy Polk, 42, of Takoma Park, Md.

Polk is survived by her husband, John Robinette, and her two sons, Adam, 7, and Brian, 4. A private funeral will be held Tuesday, May 4. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring, where Polk was an active member, will host a celebration of her life on Friday, June 18 at 2 p.m.

In addition to being a wife and mother, Polk spent her time advocating for the creation of a midwifery clinic in Takoma Park. The proposed Seasons of Life Women’s Health and Birth Center is hoped to be included in plans for the forthcoming Washington Adventist Hospital, and meant to replace two other nearby birthing centers that have closed in recent years.

“Amy was a beautiful wife and mother,” Robinette said in a statement. “She meant so many things to so many people, but the best way to remember and honor her life is to support her vision of a birth center.”

In light of Amy’s work, the family is asking for donations to be made to Seasons of Life, which can be done online or by mail to “Seasons of Life,” 7224 Central Avenue, Takoma Park, MD 20912.
