You’ve got a handful of options Friday night in the Dupont Circle and U Street neighborhoods, so consider making a night of it.
>> First, stop by the Q Street Gallery from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening for a solo exhibition by D.C. gouache and sumi ink artist Carlos Muñoz-Jiménez, who has roots in both Africa and South America.
>> While you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to hit up Hillyer Art Space for Valentine Wolly’s Flipped opening from 6 to 9 p.m. with DJ Double Stuff and a $5 suggested donation. And on Sunday, Baltimore’s improvisational and experimental KREation Jazz Enbsemble will perform there from 7 to 10 p.m.
>> Then, head to the Smith Farm Center for Healing Arts from 6 to 8 p.m. for the opening of How to Get Off a Well-Traveled Road: The Works of Alex Todorovich. The late artist integrates the folk and decorative arts to address her experiences with cancer and “the social body of love, celebration, and connection that comes with healing.”
>> Over on U Street, Affinity Lab opens a month-long collaborative exhibit with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Artist Lindz Routt, DJ Arthur Goodland and musicians TNTrio will all be on hand. Visitors are encouraged to share their own memories and anecdotes at the opening, and the fifteen most creative contributions will receive a free painting of their choice.
