An Arlington Regional Transit bus burst into flames shortly after 6 p.m. Monday evening in the 2200 block of N. Pershing Drive, across from Fort Myer.

The bus was on a training route at the time of the incident, carrying only the driver and a training manager. No one was injured.

“We noticed smoke coming out of the vent, we got out, we called maintenance, and it caught fire,” said the trainer, Steve Yaffe. “I would guess that it must have started leaking engine oil.”

The bus is one of many ART buses that are designed to carry smaller passenger loads. Arlington police and fire crews responded to the scene, and the fire was put out. ARLnow.com posted a video of the flames, which engulfed the entire vehicle.
