The position of the man’s body in the light, with his head so dark that you can only see the silhouette of his face gazing up the line of the stairs toward the light source, is the stuff of a film noir cinematographer’s dreams. We can imagine that the dialogue between the two people is painfully dramatic, and that their fate is doomed and tortured.
