Those of you who missed banished? productions‘s A Tactile Dinner at last year’s Fringe Festival have another shot to catch this unusual combination of food and theater this month.

Tonight, A Tactile Dinner comes to the Big Bear Cafe (1700 1st Street NW) with a 10-course “sensory” vegetarian menu for $25 (plus $5 suggested gratuity). Tonight and tomorrow’s shows are sold-out, but tickets are still available for Saturday, May 15 at 7 and 9:30 p.m.

Meat eaters may be more interested in A Tactile Dinner at the Long View Gallery (1234 9th Street NW). This version of the event includes an aperitivo plus 15 omnivore courses for $45. Tickets are available for Sunday, May 16 at 5 and 7:30 p.m. and Monday, May 17 at 7 and 9:30 p.m.

Artist-chefs have pulled from F.T. Marinetti’s Futurist Cookbook to create colorful, sculptural, texturally interesting dishes. “Servertrons” will wait on audience/diners, providing them with “suitable tactilist garb” and lead them through the meal.

Based on our experience last year, this year’s shows should be well worth a look.
