The Seventh Day Adventists at Capital Memorial Church are serving up an awesome sampling of vegetarian dishes from around the world this Sunday from 1-4 p.m., all for $10.

CMC’s fair is by far my favorite of the area’s church festivals. At most other events, like at this weekend’s beloved St. Sophia Greek Festival, you’ll find long lines for a not always inexpensive taste of the parishioners’ common heritage.

DCist took some heat from a few hungry veggie commenters last year who only found out about the Van Ness church’s delicious annual International Vegetarian Food Fair by reading our account after the fact (hey, it was in the Weekly Feed!) But so there are no hard feelings or empty stomachs among our non-carnivorous friends this time around, consider this fair warning. D.C. area Seventh Day Adventists, hailing from over 40 countries from around the world, will fan out across their house of worship’s several community rooms serving hundreds of ethnic, meat-free dishes from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, India, Latin America, the Middle East, and here in the U.S.

The Adventists are big on health, and their nutrition council says that meats ,with their high saturated fats and cholesterol, just aren’t good for you. Even fish! They’re not too big on alcohol or caffeine, either. Their guide on what to expect from your upbeat and friendly Seventh-day Adventist neighbor is also an interesting read.

The Capital Memorial Church is located at 3150 Chesapeake Street NW. Sunday’s Seventh-Day Adventist event celebrates the church’s vegetarian lifestyle and the congregation’s diversity. The global representation will be immense, and the quantity of food gut-busting.
