MOVIES: Lots of new retrospectives starting up this weekend at the AFI Silver. Tonight offers a chance to catch The Graduate on the big screen, as part of a freshly launched Mike Nichols extravaganza. 7 p.m.
Attention suckers for romantic comedies: The Rosslyn Film Festival continues tonight with My Best Friend’s Wedding. Movie starts at approximately 8 p.m. in Gateway Park. Free.
ART: Science-y art-lovers should hit up Flashpoint Gallery for the opening of Veritas Obscura. Artist Marc Roman uses a unique process of mixed media to “document” the timeline of the electron since its discovery by physicist J.J. Thomson in 1897. Roman follows theories and wild guesses as well as practical experiments, up to the construction of the Large Hadron Collider. Reception runs 6 to 8 p.m.
And over at Curator’s Office, local performance artist Kathryn Cornelius presents her new show, The Feeling of What Happens, featuring a series of videos and photographs meant to elicit reactions from viewers. 6 to 8 p.m.
MUSIC: Little Brother have decided to call it quits after a decade together. But before they go, two-time DCist interviewee Phonte and Rapper Big Pooh are showing fans love on tour in support of their final album, Left Back. They’ll be at the Black Cat. $20, 9 p.m.
It’s another must-see show at St. Stephens Church (1525 Newton Street NW). Local activist collective Positive Force DC is hosting yet again, this time featuring local retro-pop purveyors Title Tracks, Baltimore’s Ecstatic Sunshine, DCist favorites Deleted Scenes, and Authorization. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.; entry is $8, or $7 with the donation of a can of food.
