High Places play DC9 on Monday

MONDAY
L.A.’s High Places play electronic, somewhat moody music that makes a great match for a humid night in the District. You can get a little preview with their song “On Giving Up.” They’re playing with Dustin Wong, of the great Baltimore band Ponytail, at DC9. And if you haven’t been upstairs at DC9 lately, stop by and check out some major changes to the layout. They even turned the stairs around! Stop by and see what I’m talking about for yourself, and have fun playing the “where am I going to come out at the top of these crazy turned around stairs?” game. 8:30 p.m., $10/$12.

TUESDAY
Olivia Mancini, one of the local music scene’s brightest rising stars, is starting up a new event at Asylum called Pass The Guitar, Round 1, which is part of her monthly residency at the Adams Morgan bar. She’s invited other local musicians to come out and play two acoustic songs each before (you guessed it) passing the guitar to the next. Low key and beer-flavored, this first outing will feature Stripmall Ballads, Laughing Man, Lightfoot, America Hearts, Aaron Thompson and others.

>> Black Cat Backstage: Visqueen (listen to “Beautiful Amnesia” from her latest album, Message to Garcia), Bellman Barker. 9 p.m., $10.
