Thursday:
>> The annual Can A Sista Rock A Mic festival is about to get underway. But before it does, there will be a warm-up show featuring Detroit-based emcee Invincible (pictured) at Asylum. Noted for her activism, lyricism and combination of both, she’s worked with the likes of Black Star and wrote for the early 2000s MTV show, “Lyricist Lounge.” Also performing will be Tarica June, Mana, DJ Gemz and DJ Jav. $10, 9 p.m.

Friday:
>> The Capital Jazz Fest starts tonight and goes through Sunday. Some of the artists and groups slated to appear over the weekend include Gladys Knight, Johnny Gill, Raphael Saadiq, Cameo, Patti Labelle and The Brand New Heavies, just to name a few.
