Broken Bells, courtesy Columbia Records MONDAY
Say what you will about Broken Bells, the great-in-theory but mediocre-in-execution collaboration between Danger Mouse and The Shins‘ James Mercer, but they’ve got indisputably great taste in women. The new video for its otherwise blasé single “The Ghost Inside You” happens to feature a cameo from Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks. Such are the perks of those who write songs that’ll change your life. Merge Records’ The Morning Benders open. 9:30 Club, 7 p.m., Sold Out.
>>Rock and Roll Hotel: Plants and Animals, Lost in the Trees. 8:30 p.m., $12.
>>Wolf Trap: Jeff Beck, Erin McCarley. 8 p.m., $25-42.
TUESDAY
Many musicians fashion themselves as oddities, but it doesn’t get much stranger (in a good way) than the keyboard scuzz of New Orleans duo Quintron and Miss Pussycat. If their MySpace page is to be believed, they’ll be taking this opportunity to preview some new songs from the forthcoming double album tentatively entitled, Sugar of the Savage. Opening is Nashville’s JEFF the Brotherhood, another duo comprised of former members of pre-pubescent punks Be Your Own Pet. The two have created quite a stir banging out garage rock with straightforward titles like “Bone Jam” and “Heavy Days.” The evening at DC9 begins with Peggy Sue. 8:30 p.m., $10/$12.
>>9:30 Club: Dave Rawlings Machine. 7 p.m, $25.
>>Black Cat: CocoRosie, Diane Cluck. 8 p.m., $20.
>>Iota: Megafaun, Sam Quinn. 8:30 p.m., $12.
>>Verizon Center: James Taylor, Carole King. 8 p.m., $62.50-128.00.
>>Wolf Trap: Jethro Tull, Procol Harum. 7:30 p.m., $30-45.
>>Birchmere: Langhorne Slim, Harper Simon. 7:30 p.m., $20.
