Well what do you know, there’s some non-Strasburg sports news today after all. Wizards Insider reports that the sale of the Washington Wizards to Ted Leonsis has been approved by the NBA Board of Governors.
Leonsis reached a tentative agreement with the Pollin family at the end of April to purchase the team, along with the Verizon Center. The Capitals owner already held a 44 percent stake in the team. Today’s announcement means Leonsis officially owns the other 56 percent.
Now that the deal has been approved, Leonsis will get to be involved in the NBA draft, set for June 24. Following a bruising season that featured the departure of several marquee players as well as the now infamous troubles of Gilbert Arenas, the Wizards were given the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, and are widely expected to choose Kentucky freshman John Wall.
