Point Chaud Café & Crepes shed its long hanging “coming soon” sign and officially opened for business on 14th Street NW on Saturday. Can-Can and Moulin Rouge posters dot the simply painted orange and blue walls, and a French bistro CD played in the background. A steady stream of curious customers wandered through to grab seats on the wicker chairs inside the small eatery.
For a dining room that is dedicated to a singular item, seemingly countless options abound, both sweet and savory. Sweet crepes range from the simple toppings of butter & sugar, fresh squeezed lemon, or maple syrup for just over $3 and can be stuffed with toppings including honey, banana, and almond powder or ricotta, apple, and cinnamon, or most any combination of Nutella, chocolate, and berries, with dollops of whipped cream on the side. Savory options include a range of veggies, cheeses, and proteins. The most complex crepes cost close to $10, but hearty options can be found in the $5 or $6 price point. Illy coffees and cappuccino drinks are available, and the bistro vibe comes with free WiFi.
