Violinist Jennifer KohThe miserable heat outside pretty much spells the end of the classical music season, so your Classical Music Agenda is going on its well-deserved summer hiatus. Here are some concerts you might want to hear during the rest of this month — the Agenda will return in a couple weeks with some picks for July.
>> Tomorrow (June 14, 8 p.m.) there is a concert by the Beethoven Found Philharmonic in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. Members from various orchestras join together to play two rediscovered works of Beethoven.
>> The National Symphony Orchestra continues to play concerts, beginning this week with a program of Haydn, Szymanowksi, and Mahler (June 17 to 19) with conductor Juraj Valcuha and violinist Jennifer Koh. There is also a special, one-time concert later in the month (June 29, 8 p.m.) that features conductor Jeffrey Kahane and cellist Yo-Yo Ma performing the music of Ravel and Golijov.
>> The performances of the National Orchestral Institute, which brings together promising young classical musicians at the University of Maryland, continue throughout the month: the National Orchestral Institute Chamber Music Finale is later this week (June 18, 7 p.m.), followed by the National Orchestral Institute New Lights Concert (June 24, 8 p.m.). Both concerts are free. Performances by the entire group in their symphonic form are scheduled for the next two Saturdays: programs of Dukas and Wagner (June 19, 8 p.m.) and Brahms, Higdon, and Elgar (June 26, 8 p.m.). All performances are in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center in College Park.
