Back in February, D.C.’s Water and Sewer Authority announced a contest to design a new logo for WASA, which was badly in need of a new image. It was announced then that the winner would receive $2,000 — a big get for a graphic designer and a small price to pay for a public image overhaul.
Today, WASA announced a new logo and a new name (kind of). Though WASA is still officially named WASA, you and I are supposed to call the agency D.C. Water for short. And replacing its old imperial-looking logo is a simplified, organic, healthy logo reflecting the new name. D.C. Water truly took the sewage out of its name.
Who won the prize? D.C. Water says that the agency received 188 entries and compiled the winning design using features from three submissions, so the kitty must split three ways. It’s a handsome look, especially the logo on the right, which provides more useful information and dispenses with the ill-fitting serif text.
