Photo by Katieforeman2010Car, Metrobus Accident on I-395: Multiple D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to an accident at I-395 at Maine Avenue SW, in which it appears a car collided with a Metrobus. The first reports from @dcfireems came in at about 7:30 a.m. Two adults were transported away from the scene for minor injuries, while another 16 or 18 patients were taken in for precautionary checkups. (Note that WUSA9 is now reporting that 22 people were sent to the hospital.)
Initially, it was believed that the bus was mostly transporting students, though it is unclear whether that detail was reported before it was revealed that the bus was a Metrobus — which might or might not be shuttling students. It does not seem as anyone involved in the accident, many of whom were triaged at a nearby firehouse, suffered significant injuries.
Traffic took a blow, as you’d only imagine it would for an accident between a Metrobus and a car on a highway. As of 8:45, Dr. Gridlock sounded the all-clear, but for most of rush hour the 14th Street bridge was a parking lot.
Mayor Takes Blame for Stolen Bikes: Here’s a standup guy for you. The Washington Post reports that Mayor Adrian Fenty is sticking up for the blue who failed to prevent bike thieves from pillaging his garage. They followed protocol, he says. But according to the Post, the incident, as well as the Mayor’s policy against police patrolling his property, “renewed concerns about Fenty’s secrecy, which have included questions about not being more forthcoming with his public schedule and out-of-town travel as well as shunning police protection.” I, for one, am inclined to blame the bike thieves for stealing the Mayor’s bike.
