The New Pornographers play to sold out crowds at the 9:30 Club Monday and Tuesday. Written by DCist contributor Sarah Sherman
Tuesday
The New Pornographers play the first of two nights at the 9:30 Club this evening, and it’s no surprise that both dates sold out within weeks of their announcement considering how much of a love fest exists between this city and this band. (Hopefully Neko won’t have to make any threats tonight.) The band is touring in support of its fifth album, ‘Together’, a delightfully complex record that will expand your mind (and your vocabulary) all summer long. The Dodos and The Dutchess and The Duke open. 7 p.m., Sold Out.
>> DC9: Young Mammals, Laughing Man (***), Deutschmarks and Deleted Scenes (***). 9 p.m., $8.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Sage Francis, Free Moral Agents, B. Dolan. 9 p.m., $18.
>> Wolf Trap: Chick Corea Freedom Band, Bela Fleck. 8 p.m., $25-$75.
Wednesday
Get lost in Carey Mercer’s remarkable pipes (and lyrics) as Frog Eyes take the stage at DC9 with Beach Fossils and Pearly Gate Music. 9 p.m., $10/$12.
>> Velvet Lounge: Laura Zax, Shadows Ghosts, Deb Felz. 9 p.m., $8.
>> Rock and Roll Hotel: Good Old War, Yukon Blonde, Audra Mae, 8 p.m., $10/$12.
