In case you couldn’t make it out to the 9:30 Club last night or read the internet today, Hole — which, apparently still exists and can somehow charge $45 for tickets to their shows, despite going 12 years between LP releases — and infamous lead signer Courtney Love delivered what could only be considered a train wreck of massive proportions.
The 9:30 Club message board is replete with some real gems from concert-goers: Love and company covered Nine Inch Nails, Judy Garland and Leonard Cohen (…interesting choices), and the band’s set went until 1:10 a.m. Love rambled on and on — at one point, she asked the audience what they thought her worst song was — and several attempts to play songs stuttered and fell apart. Most people left early. Love apparently had a iPhone-wielding “videographer” block the view of several attendees. Like any great debacle, it sounds like there were just as many people who were more upset that they didn’t get a chance to witness the spectacle firsthand.
It’s quite possible that this was the worst show, especially for the money, ever held at 9:30 — or in D.C., for that matter.
But why make sweepingly general statements like that, when we know that our readership has probably seen much, much worse? We want to hear your worst D.C. concert stories — especially from you old timers (and, hey, we know who you are). Got a particularly bad tale to tell? Drop us a line and share it with the world.
