Hoo boy, it’s going to be a big month for Metro maintenance. WMATA has released its monthly plan for July’s weeknight and weekend work — combined, it’s almost as long as the collected works of Dostoevsky. During July, Metro employees will replace track fasteners, cross ties, weld new rail on the tracks, make repairs to concrete slabs underneath the rails and make station platform repairs all over the system. Based on this list, strap in for some lengthy delays throughout the month. For starters: riders should add 20 to 30 minutes of travel time between 10 p.m. until closing on all lines, Sunday through Thursdays, for the entire month.

As is the norm, WMATA won’t be performing any maintenance on the weekend over the Fourth of July weekend.
