The agenda of ANC 6B’s next meeting contained an interesting little nugget of information this morning: Artomatic might be eyeing Hine Junior High School at the intersection of 7th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue SE for its 2010 location. Hine was shut down as a DCPS school during the District’s mass facility purge in 2008.

Obviously, one of the most exciting aspects of placing Artomatic at the Hine location would be the chance for the festival to interact with Eastern Market, which is right down the street. (The festival’s proximity to Nationals Park was such a big hit last year, it’s hardly surprising that organizers would want to explore similar Washingtonian interactions.) The Hine building would present some interesting challenges for the organizers, namely, space. That said, we’re confident that if there’s any festival in town that can deal with space utilization issues, it’s Artomatic.

Artomatic organizers officially have not either completely denied or confirmed the rumor. Steering Committee Co-Chair Rebecca Gordon described the agenda item as “just…a presentation about our history” by President Veronica Szalus and that “[a]t this time there’s no agreement or schedule,” referring followers to the Artomatic website for “accurate event information.” DCist has emailed Artomatic organizers for additional information or comment — obviously, we’ll share any information we hear with you when we get it.
