ASTRONOMY: Calling all stargazers: hit the National Mall (near Washington Monument, between 14th and 15th Streets NW, see map) tonight for Astronomy Night on the Mall. Free, 6-11 p.m.

ART: Asia After Dark at the Freer Gallery (1050 Independence Avenue SW) presents Bhangra Night. DJ Rekha will be spinning, the Lalkaare Sheran De troupe will be dancing, and drinks will be flowing. Wearing Indian attire, accessories, or colors is encouraged. 6:30 pm – 10:30 p.m., advance tickets have sold out, but $20 tickets are available at the door. Ticket price includes one free drink.

FUNDRAISER: Here are the facts: music, art, free PBR, and a good cause. Monument Music and Arts Festival and Dreams for Kids have teamed up to put on Pop Up @ U St., a showcase of artists. 20% of the proceeds from art sold will go to Dreams for Kids. Head over to 920 U Street NW from 6-10 p.m. to partake. An $8 donation at the door is suggested, or you can contribute online.

>> Did you know it’s National Ice Cream Month? To celebrate, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants in DC (Bar Rouge, Firefly, Helix Lounge, Poste Brasserie, Topaz Bar, and Urbana) are hosting ice cream socials. All of the $3 to $5 participants pay will go to benefit Dress for Success, a organization that provides professional attire, mentoring, and career assistance to women moving from welfare to work. 5-7 p.m.

MOVIES: Slapsticon 2010 kicks off today (and probably trips and falls) and continues through Sunday at the Rosslyn Spectrum Theatre (1611 N. Kent Street, Arlington). See classic slapstick films featuring names you recognize (Charlie Chaplin) and probably some you don’t (Larry Semon). Here’s the full line-up of films. Register for a half-day ($16), a full-day ($30), or all four days ($99).

>> The Capitol River Front outdoor film fest at Canal Park (200 M Street SE) continues tonight with Rudy. Organizers and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) are encouraging viewers to arrive by bike. Free, 8:45 p.m.

MUSIC: Fort Reno brings in a punk/rock/indie line-up tonight, featuring Give, Hiding Places and Ra Ra Rasputin (***), who are taking the place of Dennis Kane and the Hoarders. 7:00 p.m., Free.

FOOD & DRINK: Brew at the Zoo (3001 Connecticut Avenue NW) is unfortunately sold out. For those with tickets, it will be held (6-9 p.m.), rain or shine. There are a few sellers on Craigslist (ranging from $40 to $120), though, if you’re dying to go.

>> Whitlows on Wilson (2854 Wilson Blvd., Clarendon) is passing out free mugs to those who ask from 4 to 6 p.m. Every Thursday from 4-9 p.m. the mugs will be good for $1.50 beers.

PROTEST: Join the ACLU of the Nation’s Capital and the D.C. Statehood – Yes We Can! Coalition for “An Evening of Education and Entertainment in Support of D.C. Statehood” with musical guests, speakers, and more. Join up at the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol (First Street NW between Constitution and Independence Avenues) from 6-9 p.m. Free.
