>> The wide musical repertoire of The Soul Controllers‘ DJs Jahsonic and Stylus make for good times wherever they happen to be spinning. Tonight, they’ll be at the U Street Music Hall with a set sure to touch on hip-hop, house and just about anything else that will get you moving. Free, 10 p.m.

Thursday:
>> The monthly “Afrobeat for Ya Soul” party is back for its July edition at Bossa. As usual, DJ Underdog and the Cheick Hamala Band provide the musical backdrop. $5, 9 p.m.

Friday:
>> Carolyn Malachi is a local vocalist whose musical styling draws influences from hip-hop, spoken word and jazz. She’ll be celebrating the release of her album, Revenge of the Smart Chicks II: Ambitious Gods with a show at the U Street Music Hall. $10 concert admission/$15 concert admission and CD/$35 concert admission, CD and post-show private gathering, 7 p.m.

>> DJ/producer Miguel Migs is one of the main proprietors of chill-out house music, making a name for himself with several releases on Naked Music Recordings. He’ll be teaming up with Baltimore’s Lisa Moody for a set at the U Street Music Hall. Free before 11 p.m./$10 with RSVP/$15, 10 p.m.

>> It’s been a little over a year since Mark de Clive-Lowe last came through the District. This new age, one-man band specializes in improvised dance music that’s infectious and intelligent. Supplying vocals for his musical creations will be former D.C. resident, Sy Smith, with Chris Burns opening up the night. $18 in advance, 10 p.m.
