The 2011 Washington DC/Baltimore Zagat Guide was released today. Zagat’s rankings are based on a survey which rates restaurants’ food, decor, service, and cost on a 30-point scale.
This year’s top five are Marcel’s, Inn at Little Washington, Komi, CityZen and Rasika. This was a significant leap for Marcel’s, which moved up from a #6 ranking in 2009, as well as for Rasika, which did not place among the top 10 in the previous guide. Makoto (#1 in 2009) and L’Auberge Provencale (#4 in 2009) fell out of the top five.
Along with restaurant rankings, Zagat’s regularly puts out information about local dining trends. D.C. diners surprisingly only dine out 2.6 times per week, lower than the national average of 3.2. Also a surprise: the low inflation on the average cost of a meal. The price of an average meal in the Washington area this year is $35.99, only slightly up from $35.13 in the last survey.
