Artist Vonn Sumner’s work will be on display at the new Morton Fine Arts space on Friday.

>> On Friday evening, Morton Fine Arts will host the opening of a new exhibition of Small Works on Paper by Vonn Sumner, Laurel Hausler (who we have profiled here, here and here), and Rosemary Feit Covey from 6 to 9 p.m. You can find their new art lab at 1781 Florida Avenue NW.

>> Also on Friday, Irvine Contemporary‘s annual MFA invitational, Introduction 6, opens from 6 to 8 p.m. This year’s crop of six MFAs explore narratives and cultural identity, and include four locals from Georgetown, MICA, and American, along with Fireli Baez from Hunter College and Wafaa Yasin from the California College of the Arts.

>> Or you can head to Anacostia’s Honfleur Gallery on Friday for the 6:30 p.m. opening of their 4th annual juried East of the River exhibition. 11 area artists exhibit work in the downstairs gallery, while Bruce McNeil’s photographs of the Anacostia River will be on display in Capturing the Spirit in the upstairs space.

>> On Thursday at 6 p.m., the Torpedo Factory’s Target Gallery hosts a unique event, beginning with a collaborative waterfront performance involving music, dance and kayaks (sounds curiously wobbly…we can’t imagine how this is going to go down). Inside the gallery will be an opening of painting and sculpture by Allison Sigethy (an artist and professional kayaker, naturally) and Marsha Staiger.
