There’s no finer points that need to be discussed when it comes to The Shirks. These guys play loud, crunchy, three-chord punk songs that are fun to listen to, especially when said listening includes jumping around on tenuously-stable concrete floors. So, the fact that The Shirks are putting out a release on a local label started by the drummer of The Points should come as no surprise. Both bands will be a part of a two-day event at The Velvet Lounge where like-minded loud and gritty punk acts will spit beer and blow out your eardrums. Plus, if previous Shirks shows are any indication, you’ll feel great about the whole experience.
We sat down with Al Budd and Andy Gale at the Black Cat (where Budd works) and talked about their lack of internet presence, the finer points of the Dischord Direct philosophy and some cool lesser-known spots to catch local bands.
