- Paul Schwartzman’s profile of Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham hit the internet this afternoon, and there’s plenty of good dirt to be found. Graham refused to be interviewed for the story, but “kept close tabs on the reporting” and complained to the Post about negative bias. There’s also a story — which the Councilmember refuted — about Graham sauntering into the Adams Mill Bar & Grill and soliciting $200 from its former owner after saying “I can’t believe what great business you’re doing and you’ve never given money to my campaign.”
- The Diamondback and The Hilltop — the college dailies of the University of Maryland, College Park and Howard University, respectively — both finished in the top five of the Princeton Review’s list of best college newspapers.
- The Haynesworth Saga, Day 6: yeah, he’s still resting.
- Borderstan has the details on the dispute between Dupont Circle residents and Hank’s Oyster Bar, which is looking to expand into the space sitting next door to its location at 1624 Q Street NW.
- D.C.’s first synagogue will undertake a “once-in-forever” move to make way for a new mixed-use development.
- It’s much ado about campaign signs in Ward 5. Frozen Tropics has the stories.
- Marc Barnes, who owns Love and the Park at 14th nightclubs, has filed for bankruptcy.
- The Council finally gave Mital Gandhi the up-or-down vote on his candidacy for the minority party chair on the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics which he had lobbied for. He wasn’t approved. So Gandhi sent a childish email to the Council — ccing us media folks — which accused them of submarining him. Gandhi pulled the brilliant move of including his first draft accidentally on the email, in which he told Councilmembers they should be “ashamed.” Mike DeBonis makes the obvious Dan Gilbert comparison, which is totally apt, though we should note that Gandhi’s email was not in Comic Sans.
- Finally, DCist senior editor Amanda Mattos is at the helm of a new side project — the freshly-launched Pinna Storm is getting off to a good start by giving away two tickets to Friday night’s Arcade Fire/Spoon show at Merriweather. Go, lend them your eyes.
