Police and hazardous materials units were investigating a suspicious package on the 800 block of H Street NW — though that situation has been cleared. Police are also investigating a possible stabbing at the intersection of 7th and I Streets NW, right around the corner from the package investigation. Suffice it to say, there’s been plenty of police presence in the area this morning, including multiple ambulances and squad cars blocking off access to some streets. 7th Street NW is currently closed from H Street to K Street due to the investigation into the possible stabbing. UPDATE: NewsChannel 8 confirms that a woman was stabbed; her current condition is unknown. Also, I Street NW is closed between 6th and 9th Streets.
UPDATE (2:15 p.m): More details are now available regarding this morning’s incident at 7th and I Streets — police have taken a woman into custody after she stabbed another woman during a dispute outside the TD Bank at that intersection. NBCWashington.com notes that several witnesses assisted police in apprehending the attacker; the suspect was detained by construction workers until the police arrived on the scene. Officers who were just around the corner investigating the aforementioned suspicious package got to the scene quickly and took it from there. The woman who was stabbed, reportedly an intern at National Public Radio, is in stable condition and is talking to investigators at Howard University Hospital.
